Overview
The Meru Route on Mount Meru is a steep and adventurous trek, often considered challenging due to its rugged terrain and steady altitude gain.
It begins at Momella Gate within Arusha National Park and ascends through open grasslands, dense montane forest, and alpine zones rich with wildlife.
The route offers spectacular scenery, including views of the crater, ash cone, and the dramatic cliffs along the ridge leading to the summit, Socialist Peak. Climbers often enjoy sightings of animals such as giraffes, buffaloes, and monkeys in the lower slopes, making the experience unique compared to other mountain treks.
Due to its steep sections and high altitude, the Meru Route is best suited for physically fit hikers seeking both adventure and acclimatization, especially for those preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
