Welcome to Jozani Chwaka Bay
Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is Zanzibar’s **only national park**. It protects the last remaining rainforest on the island and is the best place to see the rare and endangered **Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkeys** in their natural habitat. The park also features mangrove forests, butterfly gardens, and beautiful coastal scenery.
Best for: Nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and photographers. A perfect half-day nature escape from the beaches.
Half-Day / One Day Itinerary
8:30 – 9:30 AM
Hotel Pickup & Drive to Jozani
Pickup from your hotel in Stone Town, Paje, Jambiani, or Bwejuu. Enjoy a scenic 30–45 minute drive through villages and palm groves.
9:45 – 11:30 AM
Red Colobus Monkey Trail
Guided walk through the lush Jozani Forest. Spot the endemic Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkeys with their striking red coats and long white hair. The guides are excellent at finding them!
11:45 AM – 12:45 PM
Mangrove Boardwalk
Walk along the elevated boardwalk through the beautiful mangrove forest and Chwaka Bay. Learn about the important ecosystem and spot crabs, birds, and other wildlife.
1:00 – 2:00 PM
Butterfly Centre & Lunch
Visit the Jozani Butterfly Centre (home to many colorful species). Enjoy a light lunch or fresh coconut at the visitor center.
2:30 PM onwards
Return or Beach Extension
Drive back to your hotel. Many visitors combine this tour with an afternoon at nearby Paje or Jambiani Beach.
