Welcome to Prison Island
Also known as **Changuu Island**, Prison Island is a small, picturesque island just a 20–30 minute boat ride from Stone Town. Originally built as a prison for slaves in the 19th century (but never used as one), today it is famous for its colony of giant Aldabra tortoises, some over 100–150 years old.
Highlights: Feed giant tortoises • Explore old prison ruins • Relax on white-sand beach • Snorkel in clear waters • Often combined with Nakupenda sandbank.
